Why business needs team building training?

We got a very interesting enquiry from a client last week. What started off as a request for an interpersonal skills session, soon evolved into a team building training requirement. And from understanding the requirement, you will be able to clearly understand why businesses need team building training.

So, the client gave me a call last week. She said she needed a one-day training on interpersonal skills for a particular team in her organisation. As usual, I then got down to asking her a string of questions. What were the challenges the team was facing, how was it impacting them, etc.

I must say she gave me a very detailed answer which helped me understand the problem very quickly. She said that there were a lot of conflicts happening within the team. Individuals were having arguments and it was spreading a lot of negativity throughout the organisation. People were reacting to one another and tempers were running wild. Work was getting hampered and the overall morale of the employees was going down. She felt that the employees lacked interpersonal skills training and did not know how they should behave with one another.

Our conversation gave me the feel that what we were looking for was a training on conflict management. If we could teach the team how to behave with one another and also give them awareness on how they may come across to each other, they would be willing to alter their ways and come together as a team.

I then asked the client to fill up our training need identification form too. You see, it gives clients a chance to think deeply about what their needs are, as we tend to forget things while on a call. And that’s precisely what it did.

The client also came up with the various components of team building training like communication and collaboration, leadership, taking initiative, etc. that the team required. And that’s when we were actually able to put a finger on what we needed to deliver. A team building training that experientially made the participants understand the importance of each of these team building components along with a one-day training on conflict management. This would help the team in taking their first step to resolving their differences and work together more efficiently. It would also help them get a hold on their emotions and how they display them. Yes, the duration of the session had increased by a day, but it was now exactly what was needed by the group and provided a more holistic approach to the issue.

We also decided to package the session as a team building training rather than an interpersonal skills training. Why? Because the acceptability of a team building training will normally be higher than that of an interpersonal skills training in such a scenario. And ensuring that our participants look forward to a training session is an important part of our job. And teaching them what they need and in the best and most harmonious manner, our forte!

FEATURES OF ORGANISATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Organisational Development has been around since quite some time now. Some 70 odd years to be more precise. But it’s still to pick up pace. At least in India. Somehow Indian companies are just not ready for it. Rather, I should say that they are not yet open to it. They feel it takes too much effort and time. And you know how we all are. Always looking for a quick fix!
Let’s face it, the market place is growing at a supersonic rate. Newer technologies are constantly outrunning the older ones and customer expectations are ever on the rise. Which means that all the organisations are perpetually on their toes, always aiming to get better so that they can give better.
So when organisations say that organisational development is not for them, I find it difficult to believe. After all, organisations are run by humans and humans are pretty complex beings. So we can start with team building training. Understanding them to help them be more productive can get really difficult at times. And that’s where organisational development fits in.
Let’s have a look at some of the features of Organisational Development and what their consultants do to give us a better understanding of the same:
  • Behavioural Expertise – Organisational Development consultants are behavioural experts. They understand the human species very well and how their minds works and what they want. This makes it easy for organisations to create policies and structures which employees will relate to well, in turn increasing their productivity, commitment towards work And also improve performance of employees.

  • Change Agents – Change is something that can get difficult to manage, especially when its met with resistance. Organisational Development Consultants understand this very well and hence create interventions which help include the parties who are going to undergo the change in the change process. This improves the acceptance of the change and the process becomes smooth and a lot easier to manage

  • Independency – How often have you been to a specialist and realised that you tend to get hooked to them because they know their stuff well and its not something you can do? Happens all the time, doesn’t it. But is it that desirable? Doesn’t it create dependencies? Organisational Development consultants and organisational culture workshops, believe that it does. They therefore ensure that they equip their clients to handle and solve their own problems before completing the intervention and exiting the organisation

  • More than just a Doctor – Just like a Doctor, Organisational Development consultants help you diagnose problems. However, I must stress on the word help. They ‘help’ the organisation in figuring out what’s wrong, then together work to correct it and then re-evaluate the results and see what further actions need to be taken. They can well do it for you, but believe in empowering their clients and make them ready to face what the future holds for them.

If you feel you need to create some kind of change in your organisation or have some issue but are unsure how to go about solving them, Organisational Development is the way. It will help you move forward smoothly with long term effects that are sure to benefit you, your customers and your employees.

Making Corporate Training Successful

The Corporate Training Business has started booming in the country since 1991 and has reached new heights in the past decade. Not only have new international companies entered the market, the local ones have also strengthened their hold and offerings and new ones are cropping up regularly.
Apart from needing prior experience, there are no barriers faced as such when entering into this business.
While many players have entered the business, sustenance and growth only happen of those who add value to the client and fulfil their needs.
Corporate training companies in India have not restricted themselves to offering only training programs.
At The Yellow Spot, we also started as a corporate training company in Mumbai offering Soft and Behavioural skills training programs across the country and have gradually spread our wings across the country using a blended approach of offerings.
Corporate Training
Corporate Training using the Experiential Learning Approach
We recruited trainers at strategic locations and also empanelled them at other locations. This helped create a robust team across 50 locations across the country.Later we decided to move into the Organization Development, E-learning, Content Design and Development, Leadership Development, Coaching and the Mentoring space.
This opened up various avenues for us as well as helped expand the services we could offer our clients.
Many training companies have also created and specialised in their own products, creating a niche market for themselves. They have also started marketing some products and services offered by international players who were looking at strategic partnerships in the country.
For the client however the single question prevails as to how these offerings will suffice their needs and benefit their employees.
The answer is simple. Whether a soft skills training company, a hard skills training company, an e-learning company or a leadership development company, one has to do thorough diagnostic of the client environment. One has to dig deep into the people and place to know what is prevailing. Unless you know the current environment you cannot build a bridge for the better. Another important point to consider is that the current environment in the organization has to be understood neutrally keeping the Consultants biases aside.
The second step is to co-create a learning road map along with the client.  Unless the client is fully involved, a fruitful intervention cannot be designed. That’s where most of the training companies in India or corporate training companies in Mumbai, corporate training companies in Pune, training companies in Delhi, corporate training companies in Chennai, corporate training companies in Bangalore, corporate training companies in Kolkata, etc.  miss out.
The temptation of suggesting the pill before finding the root cause of the problem can be very strong and it can actually lead the intervention to go astray. The trap is at times also created by the client assuming the consultant to be the expert and the consultant offering himself as the expert.
The fact is that most of the programs that are not co created usually don’t meet their expectations.
Another very important aspect is sustenance of the learning. This again is a co supported requirement. The post intervention aspect is very strongly required and the most neglected at times. Most learning interventions don’t yield results because they are looked at as one time interventions and not much effort is made to sustain the learning. Regular learning circles, follow ups, refreshers, action plans, transfer climate, projects and length of interventions actually help in sustaining the learning environment and eventually making the intervention a success.
If a corporate training company focuses on these elements then success is bound to be theirs. This also then raises the question that can they learn to refuse when they feel the requirements of conducting a successful  learning intervention are not being met by the client?

Inviting Corporate Trainers for Business Partner Program

I have been talking to a large number of soft skills trainers as of late. Actually soft skills trainers would be an incorrect tag, corporate trainers would be better. We have recently launched a Business Partner program wherein we work with trainers from different leagues of life across the globe, to give clients the best possible experience. Sounds interesting? The trainers we have spoken to found it too

Now you must be wondering how this really works and how it benefits everybody. Let me explain.

Benefits to Business Partners:
  1. They find it easy to get business as they have the backing of an 8 year old company with more than a 150 clients

Beyond the Run of the Mill Corporate Training Companies in Mumbai

Training is slowly but steadily finding its way into Indian Corporate Houses. Corporates are realizing its importance and our opening up to the world of training. Although there is still a lot of resistance to training in the smaller cities, there has been a steady spurt in the number of CorporateTraining Companies in Mumbai and other metropolitan cities.
 Corporate Training
Corporate Training has had somewhat an egg and chicken type of story which is why it has had such a slow start. Organisations have started realizing that it is important, however many of them reluctant to invest in it due to the immediate investment are involved in it. They fail to understand that their investment in the present can actually reap huge benefits and profits for the company in the future.
So why is Corporate Training so important?

  1. It is important at the Organisation level as it results in increased productivity of employees. Employee integrity and loyalty towards the organization also increases which leads to a decrease in attrition levels. It also gives rise to happier customers, thereby increasing business and repeat business for the organization many fold.

  1. Corporate Training can make a lot of difference at the Team level also. Teams are made up of individuals with different personalities and values. These may clash resulting in the team working as a group of individual members focused on fulfilling their personal goals rather than team or organizational goals. Training can help team members be more aware of their differences and change their perceptions towards each other so that they make use of these differences in a constructive manner rather than letting them create drifts amongst them.
 Corporate Training Companies
  1. Training can create huge differences at the individual level. It can be used to change the perceptions of individuals towards their work as well as life on the whole. This improves their attitude, resilience and emotional intelligence. This helps individuals in improving their inner world, which in turn improves the way they are able to handle their outer world. Training can also be used to teach various skills. These may be used to improve existing skills or can be used to teach individuals new skills that they may either require for a change in role or due to change in technology being used by the department or organization.

In the past few decades, technology has been making deeper inroads into every aspect of managing and operating a business. Hence, there is a growing need to for organizations to train their employees to use and implement these technologies in an effortless manner.
 corporate training india
For most business houses hiring professionals from corporate training companies in Mumbai or elsewhere to conduct class-room based training sessions would hamper the smooth work flow of the organization. In addition it would also require significant investment of both time and money. Most importantly, these sessions generally fail to provide the expected results as they are not conducted in accordance with the individual learning skills and capabilities of every employee.

In such a scenario, opting for e-learning based corporate training is definitely a better option. It is definitely the most cost-effective method of imparting knowledge about the latest tools and technology to employees in an individualistic manner. Since the e-learning courses can be taken in isolation by each employee or even together by a group of employees, it proves to be extremely effective.
